How to fix a screen on rigid mesh?

Jan 27

In PVC or wood, canvas or slats, the privacy screen is a simple trick to avoid seeing or being seen by neighbors. It protects your privacy, secures the bars of a balcony, and provides effective protection against the wind.

Even if the most common tone is green, it can have different colors to blend in with nature. How to fix the screen if you have chosen to delimit your land with a rigid fence? Here are the steps to follow.

Be sure to choose a screen of the same height as the fence on which you will put it.

The material needed to fix a screen

To install a privacy screen, you need:

  •        From a roll of privacy screen
  •        Staples, wire ties, or plastic clips
  •        With a pair of scissors
  •        With cutting pliers
  •        From concealment kits to slats
  •        Stainless steel screws for wood (if wood kit)
  •        A screwdriver (if wood kit)

Like the concealment kit, the canvas privacy screen will be fixed directly to the wires meshes of the mesh panels.

How to fix a synthetic canvas screen?

The synthetic privacy screen requires no maintenance. It is also rot-proof and anti-UV. If you opt for a synthetic screen, here is how to install it.

On a rigid panel fence

  •        Roll out several meters of a privacy screen and place them against the flat side of the fence (often inside).
  •        Hook the top of the privacy screen so that the pins of the rigid panel cross the hooking edge.
  •        Stretch the canvas as much as possible from top to bottom, then take the last thread of the "sandwich" panel before stapling these two elements together.
  •        Staple the canvas to the mesh every 30cm horizontally and vertically. Instead of staples, you can use wire ties, ties, or plastic hooks.
  •        Make sure the canvas is taught and doesn't make pockets.

On a soft mesh

  •        Unroll several meters of a privacy screen and place them against the fence.
  •        Hang the top of the privacy screen to "sandwich" the top wire of the fence or hang the screen on the first wire.
  •        Staple the canvas every 30cm with the top thread of the roll.
  •        Stretch the canvas as much as possible from top to bottom, then do as for the top, staple the canvas and the last wire of the mesh together.
  •        Staple the canvas to the mesh every 30cm horizontally and vertically. Instead of staples, you can use wire ties, ties, or plastic hooks.
  •        Make sure the canvas is taught and doesn't make pockets.
  •        At each post, remember to hang the canvas on the post so as not to weaken the fence, which could be damaged under the pressure of the wind.

NB: There are different models of privacy screens with more or less open mesh. Their choice will depend on the wind resistance (you will need very tight meshes) and the occultation you want, more or less pronounced.
